Road Map + Trail Rules/Etiquette

The SWNSKI trail is maintained through hard work by a small group of volunteers.

Please respect their efforts by following these rules on the trail:
  • Do not walk/hike on the upper trail (see Trail Map from point "A")...footprints destroy our grooming efforts and create dangerous skiing conditions.
  • No Dogs on the upper trail (heed signs).
  • No Snowshoes on the upper trail (heed signs).
  • Snowshoers allowed on lower trail - do not walk in/on classic (parallel) track.
  • Well-behaved dogs allowed on lower trail. Maintain voice control for the dog's and skier safety.
  • Clean up after your dog. We try to keep a bag supply at bulletin board at trailhead.

If you are planning a snowy adventure this winter, you will find there are a lot of different things to organise. Below, is a quick list of a few of the most important things to consider, which will ensure that nothing important gets neglected.

When it comes to organising ski holidays, remembering to purchase adequate travel insurance is crucial. If you travel regularly and have an annual policy, you will need to check whether you are covered for winter sports, as this does not usually come as standard. There are added risks involved in a skiing holiday that don’t always apply to other kinds of vacation, from the dangers of the activity itself to any potential loss of or damage done to the expensive equipment involved.

Your accommodation is also a very important part of your holiday. After hard day’s skiing not everyone will want to go for a hard night’s partying, so be sure to check out your resort’s credentials before you book. Some will be far more relaxing than others. For maximum relaxation, you might also like to consider your location in terms other than the quality of its slopes. Whether it’s ambience you’re after, culture and entertainment or maybe a variety of gastronomic delights, there are so many potential ski resorts available that it’s easy to get exactly what you want if you are prepared to take the time to look.

Once you have booked your flights, don’t forget to arrange your connecting transportation to your hotel or resort. Some accommodation will offer airport pick up and drop off services in with the regular price, so be sure to enquire as this could potentially save you some time and trouble.

To be sure of the quality of your holiday, it is advisable to check out a variety of customer review websites beforehand, to see what others’ opinions have been before you. Which magazine is a great source of this kind of impartial information, but there are others available online without the requisite subscription fee.

However, if you would rather choose to avoid the hassle of organising your own ski trip altogether, you could always plump for expert help in the form of a company such as Alpine Elements. Their website boasts a wide range of mountain and snow excursions many winter breaks across a range of delightful destinations across France. Check them out for some easy-to-book ski holidays.
